Istanbul Metro Phase 3 (Otogar – Başakşehir Metro Line ):

Responsible as Project Director for Emay’s activities ( Engineer’s Representative ) in Istanbul Metro Phase 3, incorporating :

 

·         2 Metro Lines ( 15.9km in length with 11 stations and 70,000 p/hr) ,

·         1 LRT Line  ( 5.8km in length with 5 stations and 36,000 p/hr )

 

Phase 3 Program included civil Works,fit-out and entire electro-mechanical

works, from installation to commissioning and operation.

Civil works included total of 12.8km bored tunnel with TBM ; 1.9km tunnel driven with NATM; 4.4km cut & cover tunnel; 500m viaduct; 200m at grade; 16 stations with 509,102 m2 covered area; depot built over 75 acres of land with 12,000m2 closed area.The program funded by Istanbul Greater Municipality by 1.35 Billion USD,have been completed in 60 months and the line is now in operation with full capacity and within the defects liability period. As PD, within Engineer’s representative capacity,all aspects of the Program, including design,cost and time variations, major claims and issues arising from the construction,have been monitored and resolved.

§  DN2 Road Rehabilitation Project ( Romania ) :

Engineer Responsibility under FIDIC (2007-2009)

 

Management of design and construction program for DN2 Motorway,main

Route from Bucharest to Siret,at Ukrainian border. DN2 Motorway is 446 km

(2x2 lanes) long and has been rehabilitated by utilizing 130 Million Euro Fund made available by EIB.

 

§  Earthquake Urban Rehabilitation Project (Turkey):

Engineer Responsibility under FIDIC (2006 – 2008)

 

PMCM Services for the construction of medium-scale 31 business centers with a capital investment of 50 million Euro. The project was part of a major urban rehabilitation program, funded by EIB. The scope of works included design review and project management , including construction supervision of all aspects of the construction.

 

§  2nd Health Project (Turkey) :

Engineer responsibility under FIDIC (2006 – 2008)

 

PMCM Services for the construction of 23 training hospitals over an area 1/3 of Turkey with a capital investment of 50 million Euro. The project was a part of a social welfare program of the Government, funded by the World Bank. The scope of works included design review, project management and construction supervision, including fitting-out of all related electro-mechanical equipment.

§  Automatic Fare Collection System for Bucharest (Romania) :     Management Consultant ( 2004 – 2006)

Management of design, tendering and installation of a 30 million Euro investment to integrate automatic fare collection for bus, tram and metro systems in Bucharest. Entire  transport program and operation systems of rail and metro has been revised, in order to implement an AFC System valid for the whole city.

§  Marmaray Rail Project – Immersed Tube Crossing (Turkey) :     Project Director (2000 – 2004)

Management of PB’s activities including tender design and construction supervision of immersed tubes in this 2.6 billion USD mega project, comprising of rehabilitation of 70 km suburban rail, 1.2 km immersed tube crossing under Bosphorus and 12 km bored tunnels. The project includes adding a new metro line alongside suburban rail; all related electro-mechanical system and procurement of 440 rolling stock.

§  Istanbul Light Rail Project (Turkey) :

Engineer Responsibility under FIDIC (1991-1994)

 

Provision of PMCM services for the construction of 24.8 km Light Rail with a capital investment of 1.0 billion USD. The project comprises of civil works for 22 stations; depot, control center and related facilities, 1.5 km deep tunnel with NATM, 9.0 km cut-cover tunnel, 2.2 km viaduct, 10.6 km at grade sections, fitting out of all stations and depot, trackwork, all aspects of the electro-mechanical system from design review to procurement, installation, testing, commissioning and trial operation. The E&M scope included power supply, signalling, telecommunications, ventilation, escalators, AFC, MEP and the rolling stock.

 

§  Ankara Light Rail Project (Turkey) :

Engineer Responsibility under FIDIC (1992-1994)

 

Provision of PMCM services for the construction of 9.5 km Light Rail System with a capital investment of 300 Million USD. The project comprises of civil works for 12 stations; depot, control center; 1.8 km of deep tunnel driven with NATM, 4.9 km cut-cover tunnel, 0.6 km at grade sections, fitting out of all stations and depot, trackwork, all aspects of the electro-mechanical system,from design review to procurement, installation, testing, commissioning and trial operation. The E&M scope included power supply, signalling, telecommunications, ventilation, escalators, AFC, MEP and the rolling stock.

 

§  Kısıklı & Tantavi Motorway Tunnels, Istanbul (Turkey) :

Design Project Director (1992-1994)

 

Management of design and construction monitoring of two motorway tunnels (on Umraniye – Altunizade Motorway), 2 km in total length, with a capital investment of 30 million USD. The tunnels were 13.6 m in diameter with low overburden of around one ‘D’ and were driven by NATM. The scope of works included preliminary, detailed design and construction monitoring on behalf of the contractor.

 

§ Istanbul Metro Project  Phase 1: Taksim– 4th Levent M1 Line (Turkey):

Project Manager / Director -  Engineer Resp. under FIDIC (1994-2000)

 

Principal-in-Charge for ‘ Engineer ‘ Hyder’s activities in Istanbul Metro Phase 1 : Taksim – 4th Levent, comprising of preliminary design, management of tender process, then construction supervision and project management services, including all aspects of civil and trackwork construction; electrical, mechanical, signalling systems installation and procurement of the rolling stock. The metro system Phase 1 was built 8 km long, with approximately 1.0 billion USD capital investment. The system included 8 km long twin-bored tunnels and 6 underground stations.The scope of works included testing, commissioning, trial operation and final acceptance of the entire system.

Metro & Rail Systems Coordinator

Metro / Rail Projects Development Program:

 

Responsible for the coordination and development of metro/rail projects in Turkey, including Istanbul Metro and Ankara LRT System. Responsibilities included establishing contacts and consortium agreements with major international partners; responsibility in the preparation of technical and financial proposals and negotiations with the Client.

Istanbul Sewerage System Project:

 

Responsible as Technical Manager for the second stage construction contract of the Istanbul Sewerage System – 170 million USD investment, along the northern cost of Golden Horn.

Comprising of 8 km bored tunnels, driven with road-headers and placing simultaneously segmental linings; Φ 3200 diameter pipe-laying ,4 km in length. Responsibilities included contract management, design management, methods of construction, cost control, construction scheduling, preparation of progress reports and payment certificates.

Analyses of various civil and geotechnical problems by using CGFEP Finite Element Program for numerical modeling and engineering design.

Research Engineer

Imperial College, London

 

A research on the analysis of underground structures in strain-softening rock masses has been carried out as part of a PhD programme. In this research a finite element program (CGFEP), incorporating a special rock mass behavior model, has been developed and the northern section of St. Gotthard Highway tunnel has been analyzed.  Later, using the same software various civil engineering problems have been analysed.
